RIVERSIDE, CA—January 5, 2011—LUMINEX SOFTWARE, INC., the worldwide market leader in mainframe virtual tape for data deduplication storage systems, announced today the general availability of its LUMINEX Tape Monitor software (LTMONä) for mainframe virtual tape systems, the latest in a continuing line of enhancements to LUMINEX’s Channel Gateway mainframe virtual tape products designed to further improve its capabilities for enterprise data centers.  LUMINEX also is announcing its High Availability Grid (HA-Gridä) functionality which provides highly available and redundant mainframe virtual tape storage.

LTMON software is a z/OS started task which enables the mainframe operations staff to monitor and display messages and initiate commands to the LUMINEX Channel Gateways (virtual tape control units) and storage systems directly from the mainframe’s master console. LTMON is currently in use by some of the largest LUMINEX customers with data deduplication storage systems. These customers use LTMON to provide integrated and centralized management for the complete virtual tape solution with a native mainframe console, including such items as alerts for hard disk errors, capacity reporting, and scratch tape management.

ViON Corporation, a LUMINEX Channel Partner, specializes in designing, delivering and maintaining storage and server solutions to data centers throughout federal, state and local governments.  According to Doug Moore, Executive Vice President of ViON, “Our customers had unique requirements that included a single point of management for all messages from their Channel Gateways and EMC|Data Domain storage. LUMINEX Channel Gateways with LTMON’s capability allowed our customers to more effectively manage their virtual tape environment. Even EMC|Data Domain storage system alerts are proactively reported to their mainframe operating console.  LTMON has simplified and streamlined our customers’ mainframe storage operations, without requiring fundamental changes in mainframe operating procedures, thus smoothing the implementation process for our mainframe customers.”

LUMINEX’s HA-Grid functionality builds on its previously announced SyncCopyä replication management feature, and provides mainframe data centers with further integration using the new LTMON mainframe console-based management software.  HA-Grid functionality provides organizations the ability to leverage multiple storage systems to provide fully redundant local storage of virtual tape data, with automated failover for high-availability operations.

“LUMINEX continues to provide industry leadership with our Channel Gateway products,” states Arthur Tolsma, CEO of LUMINEX.  “We are excited to continue working with our growing customer base to deliver real-world innovations at a rapid pace and to help mainframe datacenters increase their capabilities while also saving costs and improving daily operations.”

LTMON is generally available immediately, and HA-Grid is planned for general availability in April 2011.  LTMON, SyncCopy and HA-Grid complement the LUMINEX customer-driven suite of products, including Tape Migration Software and Services, DataStream Intelligenceä for maximizing data deduplication rates and Tape Monitoring and Allocation Control System (TMACS) software for complex device allocation management.  For more information regarding LTMON, HA-Grid or other LUMINEX products, please contact sales@LUMINEX.com or visit www.LUMINEX.com.

RIVERSIDE, Calif.— January 10, 2011 —LUMINEX Software, Inc., the worldwide leader in mainframe virtual tape for data deduplication storage systems, announced today that mainframe datacenters are continuing their migration to tapeless storage systems and turning to LUMINEX’s Channel Gateways as the preferred solution to reduce or eliminate physical tape in their datacenter operations.

LUMINEX is also announcing that 2010 was the best year in its history, more than doubling its Channel Gateway revenues from 2009.  More and more mainframe customers are replacing existing legacy tape libraries and virtual tape systems with LUMINEX’s Channel Gateway mainframe virtual tape and deduplication storage systems.

LUMINEX attributes its growing success to providing customers the opportunities to leverage the value propositions of deduplication storage and WAN-optimized remote replication.  Mainframe customers improve daily tape operations, significantly reduce cost and floor space, eliminate the risks associated with shipping, storing and handling cumbersome physical tapes, and improve RPO and RTO for more efficient disaster recovery.

Going tapeless has brought tremendous benefits for both large and small mainframe datacenters, ranging from terabytes to petabytes of tape data.  The Mainframe Tapeless Revolution is here to stay and growing stronger around the world with every new installation.

In Europe and Africa, Shoden Data Systems is a focused integrator of data center storage solutions..  "In 2010, we installed LUMINEX Channel Gateway products in a number of recognized British brands, as well as other organizations throughout Europe," states John Taffinder, CEO of Shoden UK.  "LUMINEX clearly has the best mainframe virtual tape products in the industry and the opportunity to help organizations replace aging mainframe tape infrastructures and optimize their environments is significant for us both in the UK and throughout Europe.  We are pleased to be the preferred vendor and integrator for LUMINEX throughout the EMEA region."

In Japan, Kanematsu Electronics Ltd. (KEL) is a leading and trusted vendor of datacenter solutions and is a longtime partner of LUMINEX.  "Our EG-4500 mainframe virtual tape solution, based upon LUMINEX's Channel Gateway technology, continues to be a leading product in Japan," stated said Mr. Yasuhiro Kikukawa, general executive officer and general manager, Business Development Division of KEL.  "In Japan, many of the most demanding datacenters in the world rely on LUMINEX Channel Gateways for mission critical operations.  The number of customers in Japan continued to grow in 2010 and we are excited to continue partnering with LUMINEX to help more mainframe datacenters modernize their mainframe tape operations."

In the United States, LUMINEX estimates that they were responsible for the vast majority of Tape-to-Tapeless conversions for mainframe enterprises.  “Our 2010 results clearly showed the growing acceptance of LUMINEX’s virtual tape solutions by the mainframe marketplace,” said Arthur Tolsma, CEO of LUMINEX.  “We directly installed, migrated and put into production many petabytes of mainframe data storage, across a wide range of geographies, industries, and application environments.  As a result, our customers are realizing significant operational benefits, including up to 95% reduction in data storage resulting from deduplication.”

Please contact LUMINEX in order to find out how you can join the Mainframe Tapeless Revolution by leveraging the value of data deduplication in your mainframe datacenter.
