This was Day One of IBM’s inaugural Edge2012 smarter storage conference being held this week in Orlando, Florida.  For a conference that was not even a gleam less than a year ago, IBM put together an outstanding event that still managed to attract more than 2,000 attendees.  I have a feeling Edge2015 could have as many as 10,000 attendees.

Why is there so much interest in storage at this particular time? Rod Atkins, Sr. VP of IBM’s Systems & Technology Group listed four amazing facts that indicate that we are entering the era of big data.

Consider these facts:
• 2.7 Zettabytes: Projected volume of data this year
• 750 Million:  People are on Facebook
• 1 Billion: People using smartphones and tablets
• 1 Trillion: Internet-connected devices by 2015.

So yes, a storage tsunami truly is on the way so get prepared.
